通常来说，在遇到事情时，女孩的反应与处理方式要比男孩复杂得多。男孩在大脑接收到信息时，往往倾向于“以完成任务为要”。因为男性大脑中的很多地方都不像女性大脑那样始终处于活跃状态，一旦有信息需要处理，他们的大脑就会比女性大脑更容易混乱，所以便会决定只处理最重要的、必须完成的任务，于是很多信息都因为没有受到大脑的关注而被忽略掉了。这么做的好处是直奔目标而去，可坏处是，一旦“既定方针”不奏效甚至失败，男性大脑通常缺乏“随机应变”的选择余地。

越是到了高年级，男生就越是喜欢符号、图解、图表等。他们比女生更喜欢这种符号代码的应用，而女生则更喜欢文字描述。当然，男生和女生都喜欢看图，不过男生在学习的时候更依赖它们，这主要是因为图像刺激的是右脑，而男性的右脑通常更发达。语文课上，老师们会发现男生更善于揣摩作者的象征手法和想象模式，而女生更喜欢思考对文中角色的情感描述。
